Had an issues on a SBS2003 box after changing the Administrator password for security reasons, Admin password changed, Backup Exec services logon account password changed, but the only Backup Exec services that would start were:

Backup Exec Device & Media Service & Backup Exec Remote Agent For Windows

If you tried to start the services manually they errored with “Could not start the Backup Exec Job Engine service on Local Computer.  Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.”

In a command prompt I went to “C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec” & ran
beserver -console

One of the errors “0x10d9” can be seen when the SQL database has somehow been placed into single user mode

This happened not to be the case, but it pointed me in the right direction, as, as soon as I launched SQL Server Configuration Manager i saw that the SQL Server (BKUPEXEC) was not started.

Right clicked, properties & changed the logon password to the onei had changed earlier and the SQL started, then all the Backup Exec services started & all back to normal.
